Film Description
According to the theory of the scientist Pretorius, man, unknowingly, coexists with another invisible world surrounding us all the time. The key to penetrating this parallel world is our "third eye", an inactive organ in the frontal area.

When the resonator (the machine that Pretorius created to stimulate the "third eye") worked, the scientists managed to penetrate the empire of the "sixth sense" and cause confirmation from the outside: they saw creepy and disgusting creatures gliding around them in the air! But one of the monsters suddenly became enraged and bit Pretorius's head off.

4k movies reviews
Perhaps one of the most successful film adaptations of Howard Lovecraft's work in the history of cinema. Compared with such films as 'Dagon', 'The Dunwich Horror', 'Necronomicon', 'Beyond the Wall of Sleep', and 'Hemoglobin', this work looks like an absolute leader and a masterpiece. And in my opinion it ranks among the three best adaptations of Lovecraft among such masterpieces as 'House on the Edge of the Cemetery' and 'City of the Living Dead', directed by Lucio Fulci.

Quite an original plot picture tells the story of a scientist who dreams of peeking into the world on the other side, which is inhabited by creepy creatures invisible to our world. The creatures turn out to be extremely hostile, and the experiment, as expected in horror films, gets out of hand. What follows is an immersive, atmospheric story filled with horror and creepy creatures.

Right off the bat, the monsters. The effects in the film are of the highest level, excluding a few graphic episodes. Here you can see a clear example of how the presence of computer graphics spoils the movie, rather than the predominantly manufactured models, costumes, and models of the monsters. These handmade beasts are very realistic, with a creepy indescribable look, scaring you with their variety during the movie, getting scarier and scarier from scene to scene. And there is quite a lot of time for the monsters, and they are shown in all their glory.

The movie is extremely scary and intense. The monsters, the suspense created by worrying about the characters, and the atmosphere of the movie created by the director terrify us all. A lot of creepy, partly even disgusting, moments and episodes turn the picture into one big nightmare unlike anything else.

The film's director, Stuart Gordon, has directed many films based on Lovecraft's work, and this work is the most serious and gorgeous in his oeuvre. The film was made with the hands and support of Brian Yuzna, also a very famous director in the horror genre. And the main role in the cast is given to 'Reanimator' Jeffrey Combs, who embodies the image of another mad scientist who gradually becomes a creepy creature eating human brains in the truest sense of the word. The rest of the cast is also very good. Ted Sorel perfectly embodied the villainous image, and Ken Forey wonderfully played his bright role. And, of course, the female lead actress Barbara Crampton is presented in a bright image of her heroine, also changing during the movie, but more psychologically.

All the key elements of a good horror film prevail in the film: terrifying monsters, smart tense atmosphere, spectacular dismemberment, among which we would like to single out Buford Brawley's death, it is simply unforgettable! The film is not deprived of slight nudity, as well as a couple of erotic scenes adding their own zest to the video sequence.

Perfectly selected and appropriate music of the picture, though not full of catchy melodies, but creates the proper tension during the viewing. You can feel the composer's work, and the stylish sound design adds a special emotionality to the movie scenes.

The plot is very interesting, and far from predictable and not simple, and such a movie is to be watched. You will not find so wonderfully made scary monsters anywhere else, and besides, you will be pleased with very good visual effects, both death and killings and the final confrontation of two entities inside a single creature.

The picture turned out very successful and spectacular, successfully combining the most valuable elements of a good horror movie. All Lovecraft fans, fans of nightmare monsters and monster movies, and fans of Juzna and Gordon's work in general, they have managed to make a magnificent masterpiece!
