Film Description
A dramatization of the disaster back in April 2010, when the offshore drilling rig called the Deepwater Horizon created a giant explosion, which created the worst oil spill in American history.

In April 2010, there is no oil exploration operation in the Gulf of Mexico to compare with the Deepwater Horizon oil rig with its size or sheer depth of its drilling. However, the project for the BP oil company is beset with technical difficulties to the point where the general operational supervisor, Jimmy Harrell, and his Chief Electrical Engineer, Mike Williams, are concerned potentially dangerous trouble is brewing. Unfortunately, visiting BP executives, frustrated by the project's long delays, order curtailed site inspections and slanted system tests to make up for lost time even as Harrell, Williams and his team helplessly protest for the sake of proper safety. On April 20, the workers' fears are realized in the worst possible way when the rig's various structural and system flaws spark a catastrophic cascade of failures that would create a massive blowout and explosion that threatens them all, even as it also begins the worst environmental disaster in US history.

Deepwater Horizon is a prophetic picture.

"Deepwater horizon" is a real film "matryoshka", since in addition to the main plot, there is a hidden deep metaphor. But before I reveal it, I would like to briefly describe the splendor of every element of the film.

The film is quite specific with a lot of demonstrations of different engineering aspects of the drilling crew work. And all this is not to create the context of what is happening, on these aspects the whole film is built. And how to make the average viewer, having come to the cinema, was able to grasp the essence of what is happening from the point of view of engineering and technical thought in order to fully perceive the film? I was amazed at the output found: to lay down an explanation of the principles of the drilling machine in the daughter's mouth, which wrote an essay about her father (the main character of the film). Indeed, as Einstein said: "If you can not explain to the child what you do so that he can retell, you do not understand the devil himself." In two minutes you "pumped" to the engineer of the drilling machine, and everything that happens is perceived as a philistine, but as a connoisseur. Truly a beautiful move.

Live dialogues, one-piece plot, truthful pitch. All the components of brilliant work.

I watched the movie with my friends (one of which was an operator). and we have this aspect of the film caused controversy. Firstly, manual shooting at the very beginning of the film made us change from the 3rd row to the penultimate one, so much so that it was "manual". But for a visual description of the disaster, such a reception is the most organic, creating a sensation of documentary. And we came to the conclusion: if such a device were used only in terms of describing the disaster, then the viewer would not have time to tune in to such a visual presentation, which would cause serious difficulties in perception. The whole film is taken in such a strongly "manual" mode in order to calibrate our inner ear. This caring reception makes the work of the camera group genius.

Mark Walbreg, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Keith Hudson - anything to write - just wasting characters.

but special attention deserves actors who have less fame, but as it turned out not less force. Ethan Sapley, known to many on the series "My name is Earl", Dylan O'Brien, member of the series "Werewolf", Gina Rodriguez, which I remembered on the series "Mentalist", where she had a bright episodic role. All of them created a common, true sense of the "working class" that permeates every millimeter of this picture. Each in its own way. Everyone is talented.

Well, now the most important thing. Personally, I saw a terrible parallel in this film, which added to my experiences even greater strength - the station "Deepwater Horizon" - is the symbol of our Planet. It employs 150 people. The station itself is an amazing result of engineering. Every worker fulfills his difficult mission, responsibly and honestly, so that the whole machine is harmonious work. Everyone has dreams, hopes and goals for this life. They joke, argue, help, support, but most importantly - make their individual contribution to the common cause. The station "manages". a small group of lying, self-centered and stingy managers. They do not see people, their contributions, because they do not see the whole. The conversations of this group are not as human as those of workers. They are only interested in indicators of efficiency and profitability, in order to preserve the imaginary power and greatness of the corporation. There is a huge gulf between these two groups. They speak the same language, but different things. There's a captain on the barge. A person who combines all the qualities of a real person: justice, mind, will. He is an example, a ray of light for the workers.

The pursuit of money, the power of greed and the manifestation of the selfishness of the minority, leads the station to a catastrophe that claimed 11 lives and disfigured 139 souls. But no matter what, 139 crippled, tormented hearts, could be saved and show their unity, in the common prayer of sorrow, for brothers, for life, for peace ...
