4k movies reviews
It so happened that the recent viewing (for the first time at a conscious age) of this brainchild of John Carpenter inspired me to such a desperate act as writing a more or less detailed review.

What associations do knowledgeable filmmakers have at the mention of the name 'Something'?
The most atmospheric sky-fi thriller with dominant elements of horror and low-budget, but high-quality special effects? Perhaps yes.
Excellent work by the Carpenter-Russell-Morricone trio of filmmakers? Again, yes.
So, short and simple, I praised this movie.
I will limit myself to this. A lot of well-deserved flattering words have been said about this film, and there is no point in repeating it.

But it makes sense to put emphasis on the details, which all together add up to an extremely exciting and engraving movie.

Yes, it's been a long time since I saw such an exciting film about the confrontation between man and alien aggressors. How many have been revised: global 'Independence Day' and 'War of the Worlds', low-budget (on the topic of abducting bodies)' Invaders', 'Arrival', etc., the well-known 'Faculty', as well as' Dreamcatcher 'and' Signs ',' Predator 'and' Aliens', and also 'Secret Materials' (one of the series is a variation a la' Something ').
Only Ridley Scott's Alien can compete with Carpenter's film. In terms of atmosphere, tension, musical accompaniment, finally.
Two gorgeous films in their genre. They have a lot in common, but there are also enough differences. I will not try to make any comparison here.

The events shown in the film are rather local in nature, although there are hints of a possible threat to the whole mother Earth.
In a godforsaken place, at the polar station, twelve thoroughly frozen men are subjected to a sudden and, to put it mildly, fatal test.
The setting is close to ideal for such events. The viewer gradually gets to know the characters and ... the performance begins.

Outrageous suspense, indescribable horror, complete empathy for the heroes (for those of them to whom they managed to get used to).
How I got stuck to the screen during the 'blood test' scene! And how sincerely I laughed when one of the subjects asked 'politely' to untie him from the sofa!

'Antarctic Cowboy' Kurt Russell (R. J. MacReady) is brutal. It is this polar explorer, who confuses the Norwegians with the Swedes, who is able to withstand foreign evil.
One of the many, but for some reason more memorable than the others, Keith David (Childs) also looked very good.
These two have enough charisma for half of the Hollywood youth!

I don't know if it would be good or bad form to mention the 'Alien', which came out in the same year, but which collected dozens of times more rental money. The creation of Spielberg played an important role in the low fees of our 'Something', but what can you do. Selyavi.
Time has put everything in its place.
But also 'E. The movie is wonderful. It will be necessary to somehow arrange for myself a paired viewing of these two films :)

Let me summarize: 'Something' is something that you cannot help but look at, and then you cannot help but remember.
