4k movies reviews
In the context of briefly describing the content to the viewer, this film should be divided into two parts:

The first part tells us the story of Tyler - a young African American wrestler, whose life, at first glance, goes like clockwork. He has everything: a loving pretty girlfriend, a prosperous, wealthy family, a purpose in life; the day is scheduled by the minute. As long as everything goes well, Tyler's life is like a fairy tale, but as soon as one problem arises, it entails another, and all this happens under the pressure of a demanding father - Ronald, who wants to make all his unfulfilled dreams come true through his son.

The second part of the film tells the story of his sister Emily, whose life is also going through great difficulties. At a time when internal family relationships lead her into a state of utter apathy, the worries of her young man return her to a rut and help to realize truly important things and play a key role in the formation of her personality.

The semantic component of the film may seem rather lengthy, although in fact it only tells about the life of ordinary people with simple human problems and the title of the film - "Waves" fits perfectly well. Good and bad events roll over our heroes like ebb and flow, just like in life. The characters do not seem caricatured, but on the contrary, they are alive, they change under the influence of external factors, like all of us. Learning about Tyler's past and understanding the pressure put on him, you do not condemn his actions, but rather empathize and understand him, because "he is just a man." Ronald is Tyler's father, the most controversial character in the film, on the one hand, too strict and demanding, on the other, trying to achieve a better life for his son, teaching him responsibility and hard work. Emily, the youngest daughter, withdrawn and deprived of attention, turns out to be quite independent and by the end of the film draws valuable conclusions from the tragic events she encounters. The motivation of each of the heroes can be understood, which allows them to empathize. And although the beginnings of each of the narrative parts seem rather lengthy, with small details they only reveal the characters' characters.

As for the technical part, it is worth highlighting the work of the operator, production designer and sound engineer. The picture is bright and colorful. The color palette conveys the character of the protagonists. The first part is replete with blue and red, which emphasizes the dualism of Tyler's character, two opposites fighting in him. At the same time, the second part of the film is depicted in calmer colors, emphasizing Emily's phlegmatic character. The songs match the context and convey the atmosphere. In general, the technical side is the strongest side of the film, visually it looks and sounds amazing. The actors also played well, I would like to mention the work of Taylor Russell, who played Emily, her heroine is remembered more than others, which undoubtedly is the merit of the actress.

In general, the film is quite informative, it makes you think. In places it seems too long, which is more than compensated for by the visual and musical components. Waves will definitely appeal to fans of slow, thoughtful and visual storytelling centered around characters.
