Yesterday on Kinopoisk there was news that cannot be commented on. This can only mean one thing - cinema has once again become impoverished by one cinema figure. Peter Falk. Sweet Colombo, the unlucky Max from the "Big Race", the wise grandfather from the "Princess Bride" and much, much, much ...
I don't know why, but yesterday there was a need to review this particular film. Maybe because I watched for a long time, even in childhood, or maybe because I wanted something kind and bright in memory of such a wonderful actor. I'll start.
And did not read the original. I'll say more - I learned about it 5 minutes ago :) Maybe this is better, because usually, when you watch an adaptation, you perceive it not as an independent film, but as an arrangement of the text on the screen.
After watching the film, the skeptic and cynic will say: nothing special, everything is naive and stupid, too predictable, etc. There is only one answer to this: be simpler. The beautiful is simple things. This is a fairy tale - there is no need to look for original inferences or turns in the plot in it. Love, simple and pure, is the answer to all questions. We stopped so simple falling in love and being romantics, hence all skepticism.
There is good and evil, so there must be a fairy tale. And He and She are. She is pure and innocent, sweet and meek, beautiful and feminine. And of course, in trouble! Robin Wright is simply charming in this role. He is, at first, just a bumpkin, a kid next door. But love transforms. A man can be called a man not for courage, courage or strength (although this is abundant in Him), but for his attitude to a woman. Is "As you wish" really another way of saying "I love you"? (Sorry, great and mighty, but the original is needed here). Cary Elvis, with his bewitching look and voice, is perfect. It is unfortunate that the actor, in a way, was underestimated. Behind the pretty appearance lies a wonderful actor with bright facial expressions and a game.
The remaining characters of the tale are very colorful and beautifully spelled. The cast is excellent.
One of the most entertaining things in the film is its composition. The story in the story. All these remarks and digressions perfectly complement the film. Peter Falk is the perfect storyteller, with a perfectly delivered speech and a pleasant voice. And the all-pervasive look and the utterance of the phrase "As you wish" by him is suggestive ... you better watch the movie and understand everything yourself.
This film creates a unique charm and mood, and this is a sign of a good movie!
