4k movies reviews
Reviews for Mulholland Dr. most clearly classified by belonging to two different groups. The first is emotional reviews, the second is explanatory reviews. It is not surprising that the second group began to dominate only over time, when everyone could read the explanation for the film on the Internet and declare with a clever air that, they say, the plot is extremely clear and it is completely incomprehensible why there is so much noise. This was followed by the n-th decomposition on the shelves of all aspects of the film (the one that causes deja vu) with an indispensable, and from that sore, reminder how elementary everything is, and in conclusion, the authors gave Lynch the title of either a genius or a psycho. As for me, only those who were once confused in all its twists and turns feel the puppy delight of the simplicity of the plot. I cannot explain any other explanation for such euphoria from such a seemingly negative characteristic for cinema as elementarity. Even when a person splits, like a pistachio, a certain mystery over which the majority are struggling to no avail, he experiences first of all disappointment in the mystery and - in a very Schopenhauer way - disappointment in humanity, in which you begin to regretfully think that you are surrounded by only idiots. This is especially true of the mystery of art, which is in no way capable of delighting the viewer with its wretchedness and predictability. That is why I think that delighted clever people, insisting on how simple Mulholland Dr. first of all, they are delighted not with their intellectual abilities, but with the fact that the secret was carried under their noses. And now, with glowing eyes, they shout "how simple everything is!"

Is it worth explaining that the first group of reviews - emotional - is more to my liking? Reviews, where, on the contrary, the film was called absolutely incomprehensible, stuffed with riddles and strange episodes, complex and incredibly intriguing. I imagine that someone could later even become ashamed of their lack of understanding of the "elementary film". True, for viewers Mulholland Dr. the inconsistency is quite typical, and here one can forgive the person who yesterday said "a very complicated story", but today agreed that "the plot is elementary." This is a performance where understanding is separated from the finale.

Lynch is a rare director who knows how to shoot in such a way that the mind does not understand anything, but intuition would not be able to dub what he saw as nonsense. And, clinging to this refusal to classify the film as nonsense, the mind eventually manages to build a mosaic of chaotically poured debris. Although, even not so much for the transformation of chaos into harmony, I love the work of Lynch and especially Mulholland Dr. how much for the beauty of the chaos itself, which, however, without transformation, would hardly be able to amaze. Are you losing the thread?
The manner of shooting - films with a shaking camera, where the latter looks natural, and not fashionable, can be counted on one hand - blurry light, very beautiful voices of actors and the smoothest music that I have heard in the movie, give a spectacle at the output. mesmerizing to say the least. I, without even really understanding what the movie is about (and for watching Lynch's works, this is quite typical), I can enjoy it, like a surreal picture. Who else will manage to show us both Hollywood and Poland with the same mystery?

At Mulholland Dr. Lynch, in my opinion, has reached the pinnacle of all his psycho-games, chips with red lampshades and ringing phones - and if Drive looks like something like the quintessence of his work, then, for example, the subsequent Inner Empire is more like decline and an attempt to once again express what has already been expressed.

From the previous mirror story - "Highway to Nowhere" - this film differs most of all, perhaps, in the presentation of the concept. Here reality does not precede reflection and, in fact, does not intersect with it. The viewer is shown only echoes through the prism of psychological perception, and then, on the contrary, psychological perception is explained by reality. In this sense, the Highway, although in the end it turns out to be delusional, does not start the game with the viewer immediately after the opening credits, it gives more time to contemplate the familiar present, and not the frightening inner one.

Mulholland Dr. and indeed the most logical of all Lynch mystery films, but again, unlike the smart ones, I see no merit here. Speaking of the pilot episode, which was the film, excluding its final part, is it worth keeping in mind two hours of screen time? A pilot episode of this length evokes a smile rather than confidence. The film was definitely not only finished, but also supplemented, which made it possible not to adjust the final part to the finished material, but to use the finished material for a full-fledged film.
