So begins conversations between the genie and the common woman, where he tells her of his plight, repeatedly leading to his imprisonment in vessels and years of waiting for release.

In the end, 'Three Thousand Years of Wishes' turns into a two-hour, very entertaining and calming film-reflection on the fact that even having been granted the magical right to realize their desires, people from century to century, from continent to continent, cannot avoid misfortune. And the only thing that can make a woman happy is love. But it cannot be controlled even by the ancient genie...

In the first story, a woman has enormous power and gives it up in exchange for a man's love. In the second story, a woman from down under wishes for a life next to her beloved prince, but her immersion in love's ecstasy leads to her death at the hands of power-hungry men. The third is afraid to want anything at all. And the fourth craves neither love nor power, but self-fulfillment in scientific creativity. But even hers fails in love...

The Three Thousand Years of Desire unequivocally states that women need love. But no matter how much they desire it, it cannot bring them absolute happiness. Nor can work and self-realization, which conflict with love. Power cannot bring it. Children born cannot bring it.

There is no happiness. Not even in fairy tales.

'Three Thousand Years of Wishes' is a simple, calming and visually beautiful film about the incomprehensibility of happiness and the impossibility of achieving it. But it is not a sad film. It urges us to appreciate what we have, to rejoice when there are reasons to do so, not to strive for the impossible and not to oppose the natural order of things.
