Primal 4K 2019

Hunter and fur trapper Frank Walsh trades in rare animals. He recently caught a white jaguar in the rain forests of Brazil and now expects to sell it to a zoo for a handsome sum of money. But in addition to Frank and his live cargo, on board the ship bound for America is a dangerous murderer who must stand trial and who, for medical reasons, cannot be transported on an airplane. On the way, the criminal escapes and releases not only monkeys and poisonous snakes, but also an aggressive jaguar.

I don't understand the underestimation of this film. It even seems to me that many people give them automatically, as they do to Russian cinema. But Primal is really worthy of attention! I decided to watch it after seeing the trailer, which captivates a casual viewer with its juicy picture, action, intriguing plot, Nicolas Cage...

It really is a very worthy thriller, telling a non-trivial story, making you worry about people's lives and sometimes, even more so, about the lives of animals. Frank's love for his pets is shown with such reverence! When human life in his mind is worth less than the life of a bird. And really, what is there to love a human for? Everyone demands something, talks about duty, about honor, about priorities, but animals are silent, understandable, driven by primal instincts, this is what attracts the hero of Nicolas Cage in them. At first he seems too bright, too specific, but as the film progresses, you become imbued with his philosophy. In real life, everyone met such an extraordinary person: impudent, a little rude, principled, with a cigar in his teeth, drinking whiskey and telling the most interesting stories. Also the main hero of the movie is originally shown as an ordinary psychopath - the pure evil, but by watching what is happening, gradually all cards are revealed to us, and now we see not a crazy cold-blooded murderer, but a caged animal which was cruelly used and left without the right to live a normal life. And now it seeks to escape to freedom, to continue to live by its own wild laws, on the way taking the life of anyone who tries to stop it.

There are many interesting characters in the film, each with their own motivation for action, their own mission, their own fears. And that is why the film is good. It touches on the value of animal and human life, the priorities of following a military order or protecting civilians, the political background, can humans be independent of society? Also, throughout the film, Frank tells us about the characteristics of different animals. All in all, the picture turned out to be very fascinating and vivid. Even the graphic embodiment of the animals seemed to me very high quality, natural in the frame.

Minuses that I can note: a couple of times I noticed a very crookedly mounted chromakey, and the music in general was not enough. Otherwise, a great movie for a Friday night. The whole movie kept me in suspense, and that's worth a lot! I recommend you to watch it!
