4k movies reviews
For me Terry Gilliam is a man of mystery. His films can be annoying (for me it's 'Brothers Grimm'), disgusting ('Land of Tides') and even boring ('Brazil'), but they are always an experiment on the audience's consciousness, the fact that this director values his vision above all and not the producers' wallet.

As for this filmopus, it has captivated me since long ago, since its appearance back on VHS. The touching, mesmerizing story of Cole and his relationship with Miss Riley is served as a casserole in a sauce of crazy antics by monkey Goines on a platter of fantastic time and space travel. I don't know how much of a cyberpunk definition this picture fits, but the 'futuristic', rather phantasmagoric, entourage is hard to take seriously at first, but then you somehow get drawn in and start watching with interest, with Interest, I would even say. And it is all thanks to the style and integrity of the film. There are no special effects, but that is not the main thing. The world of the future is reproduced on the border of mediocrity, somewhere satirically, in the vein of the same Brazil, somewhere hysterically, but the main action happens in the present, and even here you shouldn't believe everything. You can believe the acting of the famous actors (here they show once again why they got their fame) and the music. The visuals are superb; never before has an artist like Gilliam succeeded in creating such a cohesive canvas. The world he created lives and breathes here, and you become convinced of it over and over again after one annual viewing of the film.

However, 'Monkeys' leaves many mysteries. The film touches the feelings and somehow we want to brush aside the ideological content, but the brain moves and starts thinking against its will: what did they want to tell us? Why can't we change the future from the past, no matter how hard we try? Can a small group of people steal and spread a deadly virus around the world? This global movie problem has already been covered in dozens of films before and since, but here one takes it in a special way.

The 'unhappy', somewhat ironic finale of 'Apes' is more hopeful than any other happy ending. The originality of the script and other charms of the film are not as strong as the pleasant feeling that remains after watching it. You're alive, and though the end of the world may not be far off, you can breathe freely and enjoy the moment.

The anti-utopia '12 Monkeys' is clearly not a film for everyone, but should pass before the eyes of every movie buff.
