In this 8K video, we will see insects that have never been seen before! Bugs are amazing and strange creatures. There are more than 800,000 different species of insects on planet Earth. Were you fascinated by bugs as a child? Are you still fascinated as an adult? Did you see ants transporting food back to the colony, or watch butterflies stretch out their long proboscis to drink nectar? Alternatively, do you avoid making mistakes at all costs because of bad experiences? Regardless of your background or interests, there is a whole world of billions of insects, and they are everywhere around us. Humans are in the minority! Scientists estimate there are 29 million species of organisms living on Earth. There are only about 3 million species of organisms given names on Earth, and 98% of all organisms on Earth are invertebrates. There are many interesting facts about insects that you probably didn't know. For example, did you know that mosquitoes are the deadliest insects on Earth? They kill over 800,000 people every year (e.g., malaria, dengue fever, West Nile fever, Zika virus). Also, did you know that only female mosquitoes drink blood. Without bees, the people of the world would not have enough fruits and vegetables. Research has shown that quality, seed production and other qualities increase when bees are present. Consequently, it is important to preserve bee habitat to protect our food supply. Some architects have studied termite mounds and bee hives to gain insight into the structural and design elements built into buildings for people. Fireflies can emit their own light, and light patterns are used as a signal for mating. Dragonflies are amazing predators, catching prey with a 97% probability. They are known for their appetite for mosquito larvae and adults, so they are good for public health. Did you know that giant spider silk is ten times stronger than Kevlar? That's crazy! To find out why the silk of most spiders is five times stronger than steel, scientists analyzed the silk that venomous brown recluse spiders use to create their webs and hold their eggs, using an atomic force microscope. They found that each filament, which is 1,000 times thinner than a human hair, is actually made up of thousands of nanofibers only 20 millionths of a millimeter in diameter, they reported last month in ACS Macro Letters. Like a tiny cable, each silk fiber is composed entirely of parallel nanofibers, which they measured to be at least 1 micron long. That may not seem very long, but at the nanoscale it is at least 50 times the width of these fibers, and the researchers believe they can stretch even further.
