Film Description
In times immemorial, men sacrificed girls from their tribe to leopards. This is how cat people were born. Outwardly they do not differ from ordinary people, but from time to time they turn into animals and are prone to violence.

A brother and sister, whose parents died a strange death, meet in New Orleans after a long separation. The girl gets a job at the zoo and learns that a killer leopard has appeared in town.

4k movies reviews
A remake of the 1942 classic film by Jacques Tourneur. In ancient times, people used to sacrifice young girls to leopards, resulting in the birth of cat people, capable of turning into panthers in a moment of rage and passion. Brother and sister Paul and Irena are the last of a dying breed. They meet in New Orleans and try to arrange their lives, but the animal instincts slumbering in them, sooner or later will break free...

In many ways, the now naive-looking Turner's 'mystical noir' still looks much better than its remake in many ways, as the latter differs from the old tape to its advantage only with a bigger budget, special effects and a noticeable escalation of the theme of perversion - from bestiality to incest. The old film delicately and subtly developed Freudian theories about the fear of intimacy, dormant animal instincts and sexual rivalry, but the creators of the new film read Freudian motifs very primitively and flat, reducing an elegant metaphorical plot to mere horror and lubrication of pathology and nudity. I am not happy with the film's scheme as a whole, one of the main problems being its pacing and complete disruption of the integrity of the picture, which is very hard to take as a whole. The plot dances back and forth, the scenes abruptly change in plot and in the nature of presentation, besides, everything looks very boring and absolutely uninteresting. To top it all off, there is no good suspense and atmosphere, and the key scenes of the original are also interpreted in a gray and blurred way. On the plus side, there is a stylish soundtrack by Giorgio Moroder and an adorable young Nastassja Kinski whose incredibly sexy and at the same time touchingly naive image became the only decoration of this dull and inarticulate erotic-mystery horror-drama.
