On a beach in Acapulco, detective Jeff McHame (Mitch) kisses Katie Moffatt (Greer)—the woman he’s been tasked with tracking down for gangster Witt Sterling (Douglas), her ex-boyfriend. Katie confesses to Jeff that she shot Witt, but denies stealing $40,000. She asks him to believe her.

The film "Out of the Past" is considered one of the masterpieces of film noir. It features all the elements of the genre: a woman who lies charmingly, painful memories of the past, and a lone detective with a sharp mind but a weakness for temptation. The film confronts us with the mystery of fatal passion and the ambiguity of love when fear is mixed into the equation.
