4k movies reviews
The second collaboration between the great director of detective stories and dramas Brian DePalma and the inimitable actor Al Pacino just blows your mind, just like their previous work Scarface did.
Carlito's Way is a very dramatic, very emotional and very tragic crime story of the drug dealer Carlito Brigante, who, after leaving prison, tried to leave the criminal world. But you can't just leave it, and the higher you climbed in it, the more people see you and don't want you to leave this very world. And Carlito at one time rose very high, almost all figures from the world of crime knew him.
The solid script and powerful dynamics in this film are perfectly complemented by DePalma's dense direction: the scenery, costumes, hairstyles, acting, music - everything here is at an extremely high level. The fact that Brian perfectly knows how to create in his films the atmosphere of America in his early years, we were convinced even in "Scarface". Everything here is about the same.
Carlito Brigante is, first of all, a former drug dealer who is tired of his life, and not at all the overly proud and expressive criminal like Tony Montana. Al Pacino played Brigante so excellently that even the thought does not arise to compare this role with any of his other characters. A very self-sufficient and emotional role. Sean Penn came out here with an equally striking character of a criminal-minded attorney. In general, the acting part here is just perfect, everyone fell under their own type.
"Carlito's Way", along with "Scarface" in my opinion, are the best films of Brian DePalma and less than ten points, I just can not put it. This is a masterpiece, friends. An impeccable, clean masterpiece for crime drama lovers.
