Deep Crimson 4K 1996 Director's Cut
This film belongs to the category of those that can be called “mercy for the fallen.” People who commit terrible sins, even murder, who would seem to be the least deserving of pity and sympathy, are portrayed as unhappy and evoke compassion despite their repulsive unattractiveness. Is there a spark of God even in a beast? Yes, the authors find it and convey it to the viewer.
Coral (Orozco), a fat, old, and ugly woman, gives her children, a boy and a girl, to an orphanage in order to “win” Nicolas Estrella (Kacho), a bald pimp in a wig who makes a living by deceiving women he finds through advertisements distributed by the Lonely Hearts Club. Nicolas is most afraid that someone will find out about his baldness, while Coral is tormented by her weight. With rhinoceros-like persistence and blackmail, she forces him to condescend to her, even showing self-sacrifice. Two lonely hearts unite to continue their marriage scams together. Coral became an indispensable accomplice to Nicholas, introducing herself as his sister. The innocent occupation of the swindler ceases to be so when Coral commits her first murder. It binds the criminal couple with blood. The first murder is followed by a second. The ending is truly tragic.
