On a small island in the southern Pacific Ocean, secret tests of a new chemical weapon are being conducted. The program, codenamed “Elvis,” is led by Dr. Richard Long, while Captain Andrew Brinner and his team are responsible for the project’s security. Unexpectedly, a terrible catastrophe occurred due to a violation of one of the most critical conditions for conducting the experiment. A powerful shock wave swept across the atoll, destroying all life in its path. Eighteen members of Brinner’s team who were caught in its path were reduced to charred skeletons. Brinner himself, along with Dr. Richard Long and a group of scientists, took refuge behind the thick walls of the bunker and escaped a horrific death. A military tribunal found Captain Brinner guilty of criminal negligence resulting in grave consequences and sentenced him to ten years’ imprisonment. The tribunal’s verdict was unjust, since it was the captain who, until the very last moment, had tried to dissuade Dr. Long from conducting the dangerous experiments. For Captain Andrew Brinner, those long years spent in solitary confinement changed everything.
