May 2020. In the quiet provincial town of Eddington, a fierce confrontation erupts between City Sheriff Joe Cross (Joaquin Phoenix) and Mayor Ted Garcia (Pedro Pascal), who has conceived a grandiose project—the construction of a large-scale data center based on artificial intelligence. Unwilling to accept the powerful official's plans, Cross decides to challenge him and runs for mayor. However, he has no idea that this decision will lead to a series of absurd, bloody, and darkly comical events that will turn the entire town upside down.
