Trouble in Paradise 4K 1932
A fake baron and a fake countess—the international con artist Gaston Monescu and the pickpocket Lily—meet in Venice, fall for each other, and enjoy their mutual love. At the Opéra-Comique in Paris, Monescu steals a diamond-encrusted purse from the wealthy perfumer Madame Cole. Realizing that the reward offered exceeds what he could possibly earn, Monescu returns the purse to its owner under a false name. She hires him as her secretary, and Monescu, in turn, hires his accomplice. Their plans, of course, include robbing the mistress. However, Monescu falls in love with her, and she reciprocates his feelings. Lily is jealous. She steals 100,000 francs from her rival, intends to return the money by making a scene, but then decides to keep it as compensation for losing her lover. Monescu is recognized by one of Madame Cole’s admirers, whom he had robbed in Venice, and is forced to flee. He says goodbye to Madame Cole and, laughing, joins his accomplice.
