Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade 4K 1999
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade is a 1999 Japanese anime film set in an alternate post-war Tokyo of the 1950s, where Nazi Germany won World War II. The plot follows Constable Kazuki Fuse of the Metropolitan Police Special Unit, who, during a riot, refuses to carry out an order to shoot a female terrorist, after which he is put on trial and undergoes re-education, becoming a target of influential figures in the totalitarian regime.
The film features a quiet, somber atmosphere and explores themes of loyalty and betrayal, guilt, terrorism, postwar society, and authoritarianism through Fuse’s internal conflict and his budding relationship with a woman connected to the tragic events.
To mark the 25th anniversary, a 4K release has been announced: a restoration from the original 35mm film will be released in Japan on March 25, 2026, featuring an English dub and subtitles.
