At the end of the 15th century, after nearly 900 years of war, Spain was finally unified. Religious fanaticism swept the country. Under the motto “One People—One Faith,” the Inquisition was established, and the persecution of heretics and Jews began. Meanwhile, in a small provincial town, Sheriff Ruy de Mendoza—a valiant defender of the innocent and a champion of justice—is busy investigating a complex case: a series of murders of noble figures is terrorizing all the townspeople.
